This is an area for EMS Educators who live or work in region 2 to discuss concerns or ideas with others who live or work in the area.  If you are unsure of which region you live or work in, click here to view a region map.  We hope that members in region 2 will use this area to provide support and information to other EMS educators in the area.

I would certainly be interested in something regional.   I must also voice another concern after attending the Spring 2010 conference.    It appears to me, though I might be biased, that the Society leans towards paramedic transporting information as opposed to the MFR and Basic personnel (that comprise most of the licensed personnel in Michigan.)  Maybe I'm wrong...it's happened before!   Or maybe I shouldn't say much as I have not taken the initiative to run for the board or get on any of the committees.  Time does not allow for me to do that.  There, it's off my chest now.  Thanks.

Hello Robert, we are working on locations for regional meetings so let me know if you have any ideas on possible meeting locations.  Also, I would be interested in hearing more about how we can better meet the needs of basic personnel.  While most of the credits at our conferences are IC credits, we do offer provider credits when a session applies to that type of credit.  I am glad to see you voiceing your concerns here as that is what these forums are for.  You can feel free to email me with more information or just post it here.  Let me know your ideas on what session or sessions at the spring conference could have had more basic focus.  We are always looking for input from conference attendees.  Thanks again for your input and I look forward to hearing further from you.  Tom.

    Pre-hospital hypothermia induction.

Seeking if anyone in Region 2 is providing this to patients in the field and any data that you could share in patient care outcomes (out of hospital discharge) and any feedback you may feel that is pertinent.

Discussion of implementing this patient care PTCL in Genesee County is underway and would like to share this with the Ad-hoc committee members. Thank you.

We are considering holding SMEMSIC regional meetings during 2010 to update members on State education issues and to offer some Training with a M&E credit.  More information will be available at the general membership meeting.  Let me know if this would be something you would be interested in attending.

I'm a 'new' instructor at KCC in Battle Creek - I taught labs there years ago, but I say 'new' because I let my old I/C lapse! I would be interested in training and CEs in this type of venue as it would allow me to meet other instructors in the state. Always looking for good ideas to use in class!

Im using Coursecompass for online tests. Has anyone else that has used Coursecompass had difficulties with students getting kicked off? Has anyone had difficulties with their tech support?

    Hello Heath:

I have heard from a few others that they have had similar problems.  I have no idea though if it is an isolated problem or more of a system problem.

Looking for any IC's interested in a Region 2 meeting in May or June 2011.  Please email me at joek@statems.net if you are interested.  As for a site to meet i am looking into a few areas and of course this is based on input and how many IC's would RSVP.

Agenda items are based on Region 2 IC members and what they would like to discuss whether it be new EMS education rules, ideas, and general networking.

Thought this may be a good idea as i have had some interested Region 2 IC's wanting to have a get together. I can also be reached via 810.238.7672, ext. 214.  Thanks

Looking through the discussions in this forum, I noticed that it has been almost six years since the last entry in Region Two. This is why I decided that now that I am retired from General Motors that it was time for me to become more involved in the SMEMSIC that I've been a member of since 1994 by seeking nomination as the Region Two SMEMSIC Representative. I agree with the last comment made in March 2010 that the majority of EMS licenses are for EMT's. It was only after I retired last year that I found out how few CEU classes are available for MFR & EMT level responders. I was used to providing all the CEU classes for the EMS Team I created and supervised since 1991 and was always curious why so many 'outside' responders attended our training. General Motors was very generous in allowing non-employees to attend any training I provided. I called several nearby Fire Departments and discovered they had no in-house EMS IC to provide the CEU training for their personnel. This MUST change.

Thank you Region 2 members for the great turnout at the Spring 2016 SMEMSIC Conference. I am very proud to be the new Region 2 Representative; and wanted to post my e-mail in the event any Region 2 member needs to contact me. It is: schardy@charter.net  If I do not have the answer you need, I will make an effort to get it for you in a timely manner. Looking forward to meeting more of you at the Fall SMEMSIC Conference in Lansing. And if you know someone who is an IC but not yet a member of our group, please encourage them to join.
