Every fall, I look forward to connecting with our EMS educator community in Lansing at our conference. Given the concerns around COVID-19, and the Executive Orders issued by Governor suspending and/or significantly restricting activities involving large gatherings, as well as the services provided by hotels, restaurants and bars, the board has made the difficult decision to cancel the 83rd SMEMSIC Professional Development Conference.

Professional development is incredibly important, however the health and safety of our members, staff, and the communities we each serve must remain our priority. The SMEMSIC board members are committed to our organizational goals and will explore alternative delivery models to provide continuing education to our members.

Your community role as an EMS educator will significantly contribute to the re-opening of our state. I am optimistic Michigan residents will continue to follow disease mitigation efforts. The SMEMSIC Board of Directors will continue to monitor conditions within the state as we approach our annual educational spring conference in 2021.
